Wine Right at Your Door: NakedWines Pilots Same Day Deliveries Program in San Francisco
Same day package delivery services make receiving goods easy for businesses, but now wine lovers in San Francisco, California, can indulge on a moment’s notice, too.
NakedWines, an independent winemaker that relies on crowdsourcing for funds, has introduced same day deliveries in the San Francisco area for customers that place their orders by 1 pm on Monday through Friday.
The company, which is currently testing their same day delivery model, collects its money from customers (or “angels”) and uses it to fund quality winemakers and gain exclusive access to that product.
The company’s angels commit to putting $40 into their NakedWines account each month and spend those credits when they place an order. With over 220,000 members, NakedWines expects cash flow of about $100 million per year.
Currently, NakedWines does not charge for same day delivery, and customers can get free shipping on orders over $100. The orders are available in packs of six, 12 or 15 bottles.
The goal for NakedWines is to sell wines of a quality that customers would normally see at a restaurant for $30-40 per bottle, but NakedWines aims to keep their prices around $10-15 per bottle.
Although the company is currently only providing same day delivery in San Francisco, NakedWines is looking to expand to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, London and Sydney. Their deliveries are only available in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia at this time.
Yet the idea of delivering items such as wine within a matter of hours is just one service that’s catching on with delivery companies.
NakedWines joins another San Francisco company breaking into the same day deliveries business. Bi-Rite Market now offers same day grocery deliveries through use of the Instacart app.
